In one of my posts I’ve written about the book, which changed me and my views on upbringing kids and also help me to find some answers on some questions from my early childhood – Kindergarten is Too Late.

The second book I want to share with you is important book which has great influence on me. It’s Mind Power into the 21st Century by John Kehoe.

I think every parent wants to know and see that his child admire him. Besides after grasping the secret of success you’ll want to share it with your child. After realizing your real abilities you can do it.

The more I think about things written in this book and analyze everything what happened in my life, the more I understand how much it true. It doesn’t contradict with Bible at all. I can say that it helps to understand it better.

My life become better, because I changed the way I think. And I know that it will help my daughter too. There are a lot of books for parents, there are many good books. But it’s impossible to read all of them and it’s not necessary. You can read only the best and it will be enough to create your own reality and don’t follow the circumstances. It’s very imporatant, especially in parenting.

Some years ago I was very impressed when I’d read about his work and The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential. They are famous for their work with brain-injured children and their work in early development for well children since 1940. He wrote lots of book about early development:
“How To Teach Your Baby To Read”, “How To Teach Your Baby Math”, “How To Teach Your Baby To Be Physically Superb”, “How To Give Your Baby Encyclopedic Knowledge”. I thought that if even simple communication and showing pictures to brain-injured children have such great effect on their developing and make them smarter than healthy children, with normal children it can have even greater result. The problem is that many parents think that their children are too small for learning and communication and don’t pay much attention to the early development.

Having some experience of developing my daughter I can say that it really works. Everything written by Glenn Doman is true. But at the same time I’m against blind following. It’s good to choose way of learning which the most appropriate to your child. Tastes differ. The same is with children. I like to combain different methods at the same time adding something my own.

The most important thing in developing is positive emotion. Any activities which make a child feel happy are good for brain. I can’t stop wonder possibility of small children learn so many things so easy when they are playing. It’s never late to start but… When the child is 5, 6 or more their brain has less chances to learn loads of information during such short period of time. Still they have better chances for foreign languages and other things than adults have. From the first days I spoke with my daughter like with adult (in good sense) shocking with this my mother-in-law. I always feel that Sophie understands every my explanation and I see great results of my efforts.

At the age of 6 month I started to show my daughter pictures. We watched lots of pictures and first it was hard for her to concentrate on watching the photos for long but very soon she became very interested in different pictures. Children are very close to nature so first of all they are interested in animals, flowers and natural scenery. They also like to see babies:) You can buy some sets of pictures or you can do it yourself. I took the most interesting for me pictures in the Internet. It can be something very attractive. Very soon I saw my Sophie has her favorite pictures. First she was attracted by photos of panda. When she was one year old she knew almost all animals. It confused some adults who were speaking with her because they knew nothing about koala and otter. Now she like little walking encyclopaedia:) When we have guests she likes to tell them that all caterpillars become butterflies.

We still love watching different pictures of Nature together. Sometimes she asks me to find something interesting for her.

We used to think that we know about children everything, when it’s really far from truth. No matter what you know about children you began to make first steps in understanding only after you became a parent. The first thing we have to understand is that we shouldn’t rely on gifts of Nature. In order to make our child successful we should help our children to become talented and confident in the future. There are no retarded children; everything depends on the method of teaching.

The role of mother is very important because she’s the person who takes care of the child every day. Only mother knows almost everything about interests and desires of her child and can notice a new stage in the development. No matter what other people say, only mother knows what suits better to her child. Maybe it’s because after she becomes a mother her intuition become more sensitive. I think that there is no need to be afraid of becoming your child too dependent on you. It’s natural when a child wants to be with mother. Of course there are different circumstances and sometimes mother have to leave child with some one because she need to work. So, it’s our life. But when it’s possible, there is no better babysitter than mother, even if she is very tired of being always together with a child.

And don’t be afraid to start development too early. By the time your child become a toddler, you have to support lots of its interests. But with toddler you must be prepared to work harder because with every day it develops faster and faster. You can’t give too much knowledge to toddler. It’s impossible to do because you can’t even imagine how much he or she can remember. The brain of the child can hold unlimited amount of information. He wants to try and to know everything. We are not speaking about making a genius but only about giving boundless opportunities, health and infinite wisdom.

Some people don’t understand classic music because they never heard it childhood. Some don’t know foreign languages because their parents were afraid that it would be too difficult for them to learn. After reading Misara Ibuku and having experience with my own little daughter Sophie I tell you. There is nothing impossible for a child. Learning Japanise and Spanish isn’t harder then learning some poems in the native language. Children don’t know what is difficult and what is easy. If they are interested in something they will learn it very quickly. Just give then opportunity to do this and that all.

My daughter is 1.7 years old and she counts to 10 and knows how Arabic numerals are written, knows colors and shapes and 5 letters from alphabet. She dance and sing and knows poems in Ukrainian and Russian and English. I don’t boast. I just want to tell that it’s the smallest part of the things she can learn and it’s not because she is different. She is like all other children who don’t know so much. The difference is that she had environment to become interested in this.
